Beauty Unveiled (Director Yuyu Rau)
I worked with Yuyu Rau on Beauty Unveiled an interperative dance performance. Yuyu is a talented up and coming choreographer and was a pleasure to work alongside.
Beauty Unveiled was a dance show that fuses elements of Westen and Chinese dance mixing conflict and balance, contradiction and fulfillment, sophistication and freedom.
Yin and Yang is one of concepts in Chinese philosophy related to change. These two opposing, yet complimentary forces are constantly at work in the universe and in our lives. Yin and yang are the basis of change but they also come together in harmony to create a balanced whole. The simplest example of this is breathing. We breathe in and we breathe out – an opposing action that comes together to create balance and harmony. Dimsum.co.uk
La Cambiale di Matrimonio & Bohuslav Martinu’s ‘The Marriage’
La cambiale di matrimonio (The Bill of Marriage or The Marriage Contract) is a one-act operatic farsa comica by Gioachino Rossini to a libretto by Gaetano Rossi. Bohuslav Martinu’s ‘The Marriage’
Martinu’s one act opera was written in 1952 for NBC television. The libretto is based on the original play by Gogol and the music is humourous and witty, with many characterful ensembles. This production marks the 50th anniversary of Martinu’s death in 1959. Rossini’s entertaining farce, dating from1810, makes a fitting companion piece.
I did work experience on these two short operas with Madeleine Boyd as her assistant. They were directed by Alessandro Talevi and were performed at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
